چکیده
Abstract Objective Trial registries were set up to improve transparency, remove duplication, awareness and avoid waste. Many trials never reach the point of patient enrolment due a myriad reasons. The aim this study was investigate reasons for characteristics discontinuation trials. Results A total 163 discontinued identified compared completed Survey designed further explore nature conduct trial. No differences in registered categorised information observed between Most discontinue or participant recruitment issues, often related funding. Substantial changes procedures protocol strategy also commonly cited available 21 28 no obvious could be identified. Our findings highlight underlying problem lack detail, suboptimal recording, dated incomplete reporting within trial registry which hampers sharing learning. To date, important progress has been made by implementation standards requirement registered. review identifies areas where improvements can made.

What Crossword Puzzles Teach us about Information
This paper studies crossword puzzles as a vehicle for analyzing information in a rigorous yet meaningful fashion. The paper asks, how does information operate in the context of crossword puzzles? A model is proposed that quantifies the difficulty of a puzzle P with respect to its clues. Given a clue-answer pair (c, a), we model the difficulty of guessing a based on c using the conditional proba...
متن کاملWhat Symbionts Teach us about Modularity
The main goal of Synthetic Biology (SB) is to apply engineering principles to biotechnology in order to make life easier to engineer. These engineering principles include modularity: decoupling of complex systems into smaller, orthogonal sub-systems that can be used in a range of different applications. The successful use of modules in engineering is expected to be reproduced in synthetic biolo...
متن کاملWhat visual illusions teach us about schizophrenia
Illusion, namely a mismatch between the objective and perceived properties of an object present in the environment, is a common feature of visual perception, both in normal and pathological conditions. This makes illusion a valuable tool with which to explore normal perception and its impairments. Although still debated, the hypothesis of a modified, and typically diminished, susceptibility to ...
متن کاملWhat does Arabidopsis natural variation teach us (and does not teach us) about adaptation in plants?
Sessile organisms such as plants have to develop adaptive responses to face environmental change. In Arabidopsis thaliana populations, natural variation for stress responses have been observed at different levels of integration and the genetic bases of those variations have been analysed using two strategies: classical linkage and association (LD) mapping. The strength of Arabidopsis resides in...

This investigation explored commonalities and differences in barriers and motivators to HIV vaccine trial participation and acceptability of future U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved HIV vaccines in order to identify implications of clinical trials for future HIV vaccine dissemination. Fifteen focus groups were conducted with 157 predominately ethnic minority and low income partic...
